Subject: Automatic conversion of URL to hotspot in richtext field
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes 8 Client
Technical Area: Functionality
Platform: Windows XP client
Release: 8.0.1
Reproducible: Always

It seems that starting in Notes 8 any http:// URL entered into a richtext field is automatically converted to a URL hotspot upon save. While this can be very convenient in some cases, it is hugely problematic in cases where I'm trying to use square brackets around html links to render content on the web.

I have looked at the field, form, database, and global preference level for some setting to turn this off, but can't find anything. Am I missing something or is this just a "functioning as intended" thing?

FYI the problem I'm having affects the OpenNTF Blogsphere 3 template, where the square brack technique is widely used. The issue can cause old stories to become essentially corrupt if a blogger were to run the application's "Rebuild Entries" agent. I'm pretty sure there are probably lots of other applications where simply resaving old documents will introduce these unwanted hotspots, causing similar problems.

Now you know one reason my blogging has been less frequent lately :-(.
